Man in trouble for stealing copper cables

A man from Makokoba was arraigned before the court for stealing over head copper cables belonging to the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA).

Phlvian Mabhugu (48) was not asked to plead to the charge of theft or distruction of the overhead cables when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Gladmore Mushove.

The magistrate remanded him ton 28 August in custody.

The court heard that on November 8 2014 detectives from minerals section in Bulawayo were tipped that Mabhugu and his other accomplices who have since been convicted were stealing overhead cables along Gwanda-Bulawayo high way close to the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).

They went to investigate and found Mthandazo Mathe and Qhubekani Moyo and the other one still at large cutting the copper cables with a bolt cutter. They arrested them but Mabhugu allegedly ran away.

The police recovered 194,5kgs of copper cables and the bolt cutter. On August 23 this year Mabhugu was arrest and cables stolen were worthy $2431,25 and all were recovered.
