Bulawayo City Council indicated that it would be revamping the existing swimming pool and constructing the warm up pool in preparation for the Zone Six games.

The Acting Director of Housing and Community Services Isaiah Magagula  reported (18th May, 2016)that in 2014 the Government extended and refurbished the existing swimming pool and constructed a new warm up pool in preparation for the Zone Six Games.

"This enhanced the swimming pool infrastructure in the city. In 2015 the city pool encountered a security breach resulting in children making an illegal entry into the pool and plunging into the swimming pool. Unfortunately one of the children drowned in the pool as reported previously. It was necessary that security be
enhanced at the pool to prevent similar occurrences," reads the council minutes.

"The Assistant Director therefore recommended that security around the boundary of the pool be provided by constructing a 1 800mm high brick wall with an electric fence and sliding gates at an estimated cost of US$49 870 (Forty nine thousand eight hundred and seventy dollars only)."

The minutes states that this would deter and control the movement of people in and out of the Bulawayo Swimming Pool premises.

"It was proposed that funding for these works be financed from the liquor levy," reads the minutes.
