A man from Sauerstwon in Bulawayo who targeted a Morningside resident and robbed him of property worthy $300 has been slapped with 210 hours of community service.

George Bar (28) pleaded guilty to robbery charge when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa. The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to 12 months in jail.  Six months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition he completed 210 hours of community service.

The court heard that on June 20 this year at 12:30am complainant Wendall Nkomo (29) was looking for transport in the Bulawayo City centre when Bar pounced on him.

He grabbed him and pushed him to the ground before searching and taking his property worth $300.

Nkomo filed a police report leading to Bar's arrest.
