Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries in bid to save ailing industry

The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) has resolved to compel government to act on the current economic challenges which are threatening the survival of industry.

The local industry representative body, which held its annual congress in Nyanga recently, has come up with several resolutions promoting economic recovery including the need to develop an inclusive business cluster programme, enhancing the competitiveness of the agricultural sector and harnessing of minerals to attract capital.

Speaking at the end of a three day long congress, CZI President, Mr Kumbirai Katsande said members of the association have resolved to push all stakeholders in the local economy to deal decisively with current problems.

Some of the resolutions adopted by the organisation include the need for fiscal discipline and policy consistency by government, mobilisation of credit lines and infrastructure development.

The CZI also recommended that private players be allowed to import electricity.

In his address at the congress, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, Dr Gideon Gono emphasised the need for the securitisation of the country’s mineral resources as a way of attracting fresh capital.

The congress also saw CZI handing over 5 computers and textbooks to Nyatate High School as part of the industry representative body’s programme of reaching out to the community.
