Zahara concert organisers keep Zimbabwe fans guessing

Is it going to be DJ Sbu, George Munetsi or another South African artiste who will be the guest at Zahara concert? Well, it appears organisers of the gig want fans to guess who is going to partner Zahara at her gig scheduled for the Fusion Club at Borrowdale Racecourse on August 10.The South African music sensation is expected to perform two gigs one in Harare on August 10 and another on August 11 at Bulawayo's Queens Sports Club.
What is clear though is that organisers Hardcore World Entertainment have intentionally left out the guest artistes to keep their fans in suspense.
So far, one of the top billing artistes is Winky D, who recently put up a memorable performance at the Big Brother StarGame Eviction Show.
The reggae/dancehall artiste will share the stage with Zahara in both Harare and Bulawayo where he also commands a huge following.
Other acts lined up at the gig are Alexio Kawara and Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana. In a survey carried out by The Herald, most fans were expecting to see either DJ Sbu or George Munetsi. The latter is a Zimbabwean based in South Africa with Kaya FM radio and featured on Zahara's hit "Enwadi Encane" while DJ Sbu did a remix of Zahara's "Lengoma".
"Well it would be exciting to see George on stage with Zahara singing to Zimbabweans. He hasn't been home for a long time," Natasha Guriro said.
Tapuwa Shumba, a house music fan, urged the organisers to surprise the fans by bringing DJ Sbu.
"What a show it would be to see DJ Sbu on the decks laying the track for Zahara," he said.
"My pick is on Georgie because the last time Zahara was in Harare he didn't come, so I am sure the organisers are aware of that," Abigail Matemera said.
Another fan said it was up to the organisers to pick on who they want to bring but the surprise guest should be someone who will spice up the performance.
Zahara is a South African singer-songwriter and poet. She started music at school at the age of six and when she turned nine, she joined the senior choir thanks to her strong voice.
Her debut album "Loliwe", released last year, proved to be a big success as it went platinum in 13 days and went double platinum after just 17 days, selling over 100 000 copies in South Africa, making her the second musician after Brenda Fassie to reach this figure in such record time.
In May this year, at the annual South African Music Awards, Zahara won eight awards, including best female artiste and album of the year.
Prior to the awards a media storm broke out about the state of her finances which were allegedly being poorly handled by her record company. Her record company TS records vehemently denied the allegations.
Her music is classified loosely as "Afrosoul" and she sings in her native language, Xhosa, as well as in English. Her music has been described as a mixture between the styles that have been popularized by Tracy Chapman, India, Arie and the Nigerian singer Asa.
