The new network which will be built around segments spotlighting the biggest, hottest and most engaging African TV programming ranching from talk shows, entertainment interviews, news bulletins, current affairs packages and music shows.
Sibongile Rukazhanga, the Afro TV founder and director said, the station's programming would be "more relaxed, more free flowing, and much more spontaneous and interactive" than traditional TV.
"Our segments will be as long – or as short – as they need to be," Sibongile said.
"We won't be limited by the usual time constraints of TV. Instead, the Afro TV Network will emulate the online experience covering African experiences and issues at any given moment; and using them as the jumping-off points for conversations, commentary, and entertainment."
Some of the shows already developed include the following:
- Afro Gospel Show, hosted by energetic Gospel musician, Obert Mazivisa, a religious show covering events, commentary and music.
- Ngoma Show: Music from Zimbabwe aimed at its fledgling online audience.
- Afro Urban show: hosted by Nigerian TV personality Mathew Ugbedda it aims to promote new talent from the continent from various global bases with exclusive interviews and fresh new videos.
- Sibs Meets...: Inspirational talk show hosted by the founder herself. Sibongile Williams will be hosting a variety of top personalities and movers and shakers from Africa.
- African Youth Forum: focusses on matters affecting young people in society such as crime, education and drug abuse.
