FRANCISTOWN - A middle-aged Zimbabwean man was arrested after being found in possession of a Botswana e-passport and other documents while a 37-year old teacher at Mosetse Primary School near here was swindled out of P25,000 by an unidentified conman who has since disappeared.
The Commander of Tutume Police Station, Vusimusi Jorowe, says the teacher was swindled in June but the matter was only reported to the police on Monday. Jorowe told Mmegi yesterday that the suspect got the money from the teacher under the pretext that he was going to buy him a car with it. "The suspect worked for a local company that was constructing a road in the village," he said.
"He pounced on the teacher upon completion of the project in June, promising to buy him one of the cars that were used on the project for the teacher. The teacher duly deposited the money into the man's account, but he never delivered the car.
"We are still trying to establish the company the suspect worked for. We appeal to members of the public to involve law enforcement officers in whatever transaction they get into to avoid being conned."
In another matter, police are investigating a case in which a middle-aged man from Zimbabwe was found in possession of a Botswana e-passport, national identity card and driver's licence in Sebina on Friday last week.
"The man is in custody to assist the police with investigations," Jorowe said.
Another matter under investigation by police in Tutume involves a 25-year old woman who was found in possession of a fake driver's licence, also in Sebina last week."We were tipped off by transport officers in the village," Jorowe told Mmegi. "The woman had visited the transport office to certify a copy of the licence. .
