Mother of triplets set to give birth to 9 babies

A PREGNANT Mexican woman is set to make medical history - when she gives birth to NINE babies less than a year after becoming mum to triplets.

Doctors have told her she is carrying six girls and three boys. She is thought to have become pregnant two weeks after giving birth to Casandra, Daniela and Bernardo by Caesarean section on November 4 last year.

Ms Perez, who lives in the northern state of Coahuila, also has a four-year-old son, Braulio. All four children and the nine she is carrying are understood to have been conceived naturally. The mayor of their home town has promised to help with hospital fees and state governors have provided a specialist doctor for the pregnancy.

Ms Perez told a newspaper: "I feel like I've been blessed by a miracle. I'm nervous but very happy. My Caesarean is scheduled for May 20 but the doctors have told me I must try to hold on for another month so the babies can grow stronger and don't have to spend so much time in incubators. I haven't got round to thinking about names yet, I'm just concentrating for the moment on making sure everything turns out okay. We're confident it will, although I'm having sleepless nights thinking about how I'm going to buy things like milk, nappies and clothes for the babies when they are born. We don't have private medical care or social security and my husband only earns money intermittently," she said.

Ernesto Valdes, mayor of Villa de Arteaga where the couple live, has pledged to help them. His wife Laura has befriended Mrs Perez and is helping to look after her four children.

A Mexican woman has got a lot on her hands after getting pregnant with an incredible nine babies. Karla Perez (32), is scheduled to give birth by Caesarean section on May 20 when she is seven months pregnant.

A set of nonuplets was born in June 1971 in Sydney, Australia, to Geraldine Brodrick. None of the four boys and five girls lived.

The five boys and four girls born in Malaysia in March 1999 to Zurina Mat Saad also survived for less than six hours.

Single mum Nadya Suleman gave birth to octuplets in California on January 26, 2009.

The six boys and two girls have gone on to become the longest-living octuplets in history. They were conceived by IVF.

The 36-year-old mum, who gets £1,500 a month in food stamps, already had five children when her octuplets arrived.
