Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on Friday attacked the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) for blocking a lecture in honour of the late Vice President Joshua Nkomo at the University of Science and Technology.

The lecture, first of its kind, was supposed to be delivered by former Minister Nkosana Moyo on Friday evening.

"I heard it for the first time today when I read the reports, I do not think the President (Robert Mugabe) condoned such a thing, I believe who ever did it was being overzealous. The President and I should find this obnoxious. People should not be allowed to freely express their views," Tsvangirai told a press conference at a Bulawayo hotel.

The MDC-T president also dismissed allegations that he had banned party legislators from Matabeleland from talking about Gukurahundi.

"Gukurahundi is not a sacred cow and should be discussed openly. I have been speaking about it in the meeting with Civil Society Organisations earlier," he said.
