Dlomo aged 89 is expected to be buried at his farm in Kensington on Tuesday.
However, current Zapu leader Dumiso Dabengwa has indicated that his party his approach government to seek a national hero status.
"We will present his case and see what can be done. On what status should be accord to him, it should be taken into account that he is a hero because of all the work he did during the struggle for independence," said Dabengwa.
Dlomo joined the British South Africa Police in the 1940s and fought in the World War 2.
He left the British force citing racial discrimination and joined the Rhodesia Railways Union and elected its president with the late nationalist Joshua Nkomo being his deputy.
During the Ian Smith regime he was subjected to countless detentions at Khami Prision and Gonakudzigwa.
