Homosexual man assaulted for sodomising minors

There was chaos in Bulawayo's Entumbane suburb after a mob chased a suspected homosexual man whom they had caught sodomising two boys in a bushy spot.

The man at the centre of the drama, Joseph Mathe is alleged to have come out of the closet in February. It is reported that on Monday, Mathe hoodwinked the two boys aged eight and nine into accompanying him to visit a friend. Along the way, Mathe told the boys that he wanted to pass by the bushes as he wanted to get some herbs.

The unsuspecting boys agreed. While they were on their way to fetching the herbs, Mathe said he had changed his mind. It is alleged that the man told the boys  that he wanted to play a game with them. The boys wondered what sort of game it was and asked him to show them. Mathe reportedly instructed the boys to remove their shorts, underwear and lie facing downwards.

He allegedly hopped between the two boys and promised to give them money for sweets if they keep quiet. Consequently the boys did not make noise and let the man ride them. While Mathe was enjoying himself, a passerby spotted him and alerted other people. They proceeded to the scene and to their surprise, found Mathe forcing himself on the boys.

Noticing the impending danger, Mathe reportedly pulled up his trousers and took to his heels with the mob in hot pursuit. He, however, proved to be elusive and as such the mob conscripted other people. They finally caught up with him and handed out instant justice before taking him to the police.

He was remanded in custody to 8 August by Western Magistrate, Mr Themba Chimiso.
