During the first meeting between Iran and Zimbabwe's defense ministers in Tehran today, Zimbabwe asked for Iran's cooperation in defense issues, Mehr news agency reports.

After welcoming ceremonies, Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi spoke about the two countries shared history of "struggle against colonialism and imperialism and removing arrogant powers," and the rise of "grassroots governments". Vahidi also wished for Zimbabwe's speedy economic recovery in the face of unfair international sanctions.

He said Iran is ready to impart its experiences with Zimbabwe to strengthen its national defense and mentioned the two countries' growing cooperation in defense, political and economic matters.

Zimbabwe's Defense Minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa is on a visit to Tehran at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart. He will meet with Iran's political and defense leaders during his visit.

Zimbabwe is led by Robert Mugabe, who is charged by the international community of using violence to hold onto power while driving his people into ever deeper poverty.
