Wilfred's only surviving son, Takudzwanashe Wilfred Junior said his father's untimely departure was unbearable, adding that he is grateful for the support he got from friends and relatives in his time of bereavement.
General Chiwenga acknowledged the support from all who had assisted the Chiwenga family in enduring their sad loss.
Defence Minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa consoled the family for their loss and emphasised the need to remain focused and maintain unity.
Mourners at the funeral, who included traditional chiefs, the Attorney General Johannes Tomana, service shiefs, several cabinet ministers, provincial governors and members of parliament then bade farewell to Wilfred at a body viewing ceremony before he was finally laid to rest.
Wilfred died late last month in South Africa after battling diabetes and a kidney problem.
