It was the consequences of what is popularly known as mob justice that Chris Boroma Ndapasowa lost his life, while his accomplice, Thomas Moffart is admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital after sustaining injuries.
When reporters arrived at the scene, the body of the deceased was still lying at a dump site where he was allegedly thrown by his assailants.
The owner of the stolen television set, Ms Isabel Tariona said the suspects were assaulted by a number of people after her husband shouted for help.
"My husband shouted for help after the suspects took my television, a DVD player and two cell phones, and a number of people came and assaulted them"said Ms Tariona.
The deceased's brother, John Handireki confirmed that his brother was released from prison last year after serving two years for similar crimes.
"My brother was released from prison last year but he has not repented. I once stayed with him and he went on to steal my property. However, it is sad that he has died," said Handireki.
Some residents castigated the practice of instant justice.
"They should have taken him to the police so that he will be prosecuted. It is painful that he has died in such a manner," said one Mabvuku resident.
Meanwhile, Harare Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector James Sabau called on former prison inmates to reform but urged people to refrain from taking the law into their hands.
