Zanu PF in turmoil

A purge is looming at Zanu-PF offices countrywide following suspicion that employees are leaking confidential information.

Party political commissar Webster Shamu reportedly told a highly charged meeting with provincial chairpersons at the party headquarters on Thursday that some workers were clandestinely releasing party information.

"A major shake-up is looming at the party's offices nationwide," said the insider. "It was discovered that some party employees were leaking sensitive party information. Those employees have been identified and will be moved from the offices."

Well-placed sources told NewsDay that Shamu also implored the chairpersons to desist from being used by politburo members, as the former ruling party attempts to build bridges in its fragmented structures.

"The chairpersons were strongly urged to stick to their mandate and respect their officers as well as other party members. It was noted that most of them tended to be used by politburo members to pursue their interests," said a source.

The meeting, coming after the disbanding of district co-ordinating committees (DCCs) due to infighting, was also reportedly attended by chairpersons of the party's youth and women's league wings as well as provincial commissars.

According to party insiders, Shamu urged the chairpersons to avoid being used to further the interests of politburo members in their respective provinces.

Efforts to get comment from Shamu were unsuccessful as he was not reachable on his mobile phone.

Zanu PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo however, declined to comment, but confirmed the meeting took place.

"That was a closed-door meeting and I do not know who has come to leak that information. I will not comment, you will have to wait until I speak about it," he said.
