Harare Polytechnic principal Engineer Stephen Raza has died at the age of 58.
Eng Raza died on Sunday night from diabetes complications and will be buried at his rural homestead in Rusape tomorrow Permanent Secretary for Higher and Tertiary Education Dr Washington Mbizvo described the death of Eng Raza in a statement as tragic.
“Engineer Raza will be greatly missed by the higher and tertiary education fraternity for his immense contributions towards the innovative growth and sound management of Harare Polytechnic, where he spent half of his lifetime both as a student and member of staff,†he said.
Eng Raza was born on February 4, 1954 and was one of the few Africans who enrolled for engineering at the then Salisbury Polytechnic in the 1970s. He enrolled at the college while serving an apprenticeship as a diesel plant fitter. After that, he trained at the University of British Columbia and Laurentian University in Ontario, Canada.
Dr Mbizvo said Eng Raza’s contribution towards human capital development would be missed. Mourners are gathered at house number 7594 Zvobgo Street, Zimre Park, in Harare.
