The SADC regional women's parliamentary caucus delegation which is in the country says Zimbabwe has good gender policies which however need to be fully implemented.
The 9-member delegation which is in the country on a mission to lobby for a 50% women representation in elections, has applauded efforts being put by Zimbabwe in trying to elevate women into decision making positions.
The leader of the delegation who is also the Chairperson of the Multi- party women's caucus in South Africa, Beauty Dlulane said despite the fact that political parties represented in parliament have adopted gender policies which seek to promote women representation in their structures, there is need for concrete mechanisms and strategies to enforce the implementation of these provisions.
ZANU PF Member of the House of Assembly for Goromonzi West, Beatrice Nyamupinga who is also part of the delegation said there is need for the Zimbabwe government to accelerate the implementation of the SADC protocol on gender and development by 2015.
The mission by the group which began on the 8th of March coincided with commemorations of the International Women's Day.
Zimbabwe is among the 6 SADC governments which signed the protocol to ensure gender balance by 2015.
