Mpofu was arrested after the police shot and injured him while he was trying to flee from them.
Midlands acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the two were arrested after they dropped their cellphones following a chase with the police.
"On 8 June 2012, at about 2am, police on patrol saw the two standing at a window of a house in Mkoba Village Four.
"The police became suspicious and approached the two but hey ran away.
"During the chase, the two suspects dropped their cell phones," he said.
Asst Insp Mahoko said police established that the two cellphones belonged to Mpofu and Masocha.
He said on Tuesday this week, police got a tip off that one of the suspects, Masocha was drinking at Pandaz cocktail Bar in Athlone. He was arrested and led police to Mpofu.
Asst Insp Mahoko said when Mpofu spotted the police at Dollar Motors in Gweru's Central Business District he tried to flee.
Police fired warning shots but he did not stop resulting in police shooting him on the right leg.
"Mpofu was shot on the lower ligament of the right leg. He was referred to Gweru Provincial hospital where he is admitted under police guard.
"Five cellphone handsets have been recovered and investigations are still under way," he said.
