The incumbent Chief Sigodho, Appolo Nhlope, of Silobela is alleged to have assaulted a police officer, Abel Magore who was carrying out his police duties sometimein November 2011 as the chief was resisiting arrest. On May 15 this year, Chief Sigodho was convicted of the offence when he appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Taurai Manuwere.

Magore, who is based at Silobela Police Station, is now demanding $2 250 as compensation from Chief Sigodho, Appolo Nhlope.

The chief was sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment with the option of a fine.

Last week, the police officer, who is represented by Kwekwe lawyer Valentine Mutatu, sent a letter of demand to the chief, giving him seven days within which to pay the damages or the matter would be taken to the civil court.

"We have instructions that on the 18th of November 2011 and at Crossroads Business Centre, you assaulted our client as you were trying to resist arrest," wrote Mutatu in a letter dated June 11, 2012.

"We understand that on 15 May 2012 you were convicted of the said offence under Case No. SIL 143/11. You were subsequently sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment with the option of paying a fine. As a result of your action, our client suffered damages as the assault took place in full view of the public, demeaning his status as a ZRP officer."
