Missing boy's family awaits copy of DNA test result

THE Matapure family says it will only collect the remains of their son for burial after being shown a copy of the DNA test results by police.
The remains of Given Flint Matapure, who went missing last year, are still at Harare Central Hospital mortuary.
Family spokesperson Mr Godwin Matapure yesterday confirmed the new developments.
“We have since written to the police with a view to get a copy of the DNA test results. This is because we were verbally informed,†he said.
“We have since been informed that those (officers) who will issue the results will be in office next Monday and hopefully by then we will be in a better position.â€
Police yesterday refused to comment on the issue.
Sources in the police yesterday said when the family was informed last month about the results they insisted that their son was still alive.
“They said that their son was in Botswana and that is why they are delaying to collect the remains. But if they know where he is, they should just go there and take him back to the country,†a source said.
Last week the family was reportedly still conducting traditional rituals to ascertain whether or not the remains belong to their son.
DNA test results conducted in South Africa on the skeletal remains found at the Exhibition Park in November last year matched that of Given.
Given Matapure (3) went missing at the Exhibition Park in August last year during the Harare Agricultural Show.
The results arrived in the country last month.
Police contacted the Matapure family informing them about the DNA test results and that they should collect the remains.
