Local churches have been encouraged to take a leading role in the preservation of African values such as 'Ubuntu' and oneness in face of the growing negative external forces.

The call for the church to safeguard the social fabric by fostering African values was made by Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Dr Olivia Muchena at an African Revival Convention which was organised by the Family of God Church.

Dr Muchena described the church as an important partner of government in socio-economic development and stressed the need for local churches to be the custodians of African values such as humility and unity.

Founder of the Family of God Church, Apostle Andrew Wutaunashe said local churches should take pride in African norms and assist in preserving the moral fibre of society.

The gathering, which was held under the theme, ‘A Celebration of African-ness’ drew representatives from different churches across the continent in celebration of the rich African history and values.
