Zifa Bulawayo Province has agreed to forgo Gold and focus on development at the forthcoming National Youth Games to be held in Bindura from the 4th of August.
Speaking during a Junior League Quarterly Meeting held at the ZIFA Bulawayo Offices yesterday, Chairman Mr Mkhululi Mthunzi advised the affiliates that Bulawayo Province was knocked out in the first round of the Youth Games in Gwanda but the coaches Melusi Mabaleka Sibanda and Macheza had moulded the team that has seen ten (10) of the players into the current National Under 20 team that has just brushed aside the Young Zebras.
Mthunzi asked the house whether to retain the bulk of the boys and gun for gold in Bindura or prioritise development as those in the National Team had already crossed the bridge. The general agreement was to forget about those that had already achieved the objective and focus on developing new players and gold becoming a bonus for the province.
"My belief is that we have attained our developmental objective with those that have already crossed the bridge. Why remain focused on them. We should look into the future and should we go on and win gold then that is a bonus to the province,"said Semu Ntini of Green Mambas.
His sentiments were echoed by Junior Secretary and Makhandeni City Pirates Chairman Faith Dube. " I also see no reason why we should retain those that have already archived the objective. It is tantamount to stagnating growth. Let us refocus and look into the future,"Dube said.
The focus was then shifted to those born 1 January 1993 who have not made the grade into the National side and the squad be dominated by those born in 1994 and 1995.
That stance by Bulawayo Province signals their intent to develop rather than cheat their way to glory at any given chance. This should be a yardstick to all provinces that its not all about glory but its all about development.
