Another player said to be on the Highlanders radar, Thabani Moyo, who was with Cypriot Division Two side Chalkanoras Idaliou, sat out the session because of a knee injury he sustained while training with Bosso's neighbours Chicken Inn a few weeks back.
"His injury is treatable and if the executive recommends, we can have a full medical check on him and I believe he can be fine after that," said the respected Highlanders team doctor Xolani Ndlovu.
Dube and Moyo were part of five new players that trained with the team yesterday with three other players from the lower divisions.
Cleopas Dube, from ZPC (Hwange), Michael Mahachi from Saurcetown Spurs and Kelvin Majoni, from Tsholotsho Pirates are the other three players that also trained yesterday.
Dube is an outright striker who showed some flashes of brilliance while Mahachi and Majoni are midfielders.
"Cleopas is a good player who has a lot of potential but I personally think he should have been with us from the beginning of the season so that we fine tune him on his shortcomings," said Highlanders second assistant coach Tembo Chuma.
The Binga born former Masvingo United goalkeeper and coach said they are likely going to sign a maximum of two players with a chance of a third player being added onto the club's books.
This means that some of the players in the team will be offloaded and loaned to other teams.
Almost certain to be registered is former Highlanders goalkeeper and captain Tapuwa Kapini's younger brother, Takunda Sadiki who plays as a midfielder.
"He is a good player and I think he will add value to the team," said Chuma.
Dube, who returned home from his new US Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire this month and recently went for trials with South African Premiership newly promoted outfit Pretoria University, played down his appearance at training, preferring to say "I just want to keep fit."
Dube was officially signed by Chicago Fire in January this year from New England Revolution, but failed to make any appearances for the side in his brief spell at the club.
He had previously spent three years with New England Revolution, between 2008 and 2011, scoring 14 goals in 72 appearances.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport soon after he had done the drills under assistant coach, Bekithemba Ndlovu, Mkhokheli said he was just at Highlanders' training session to keep fit "but as you know, home will always be home no matter what."
He kept on evading answering the question on whether he would indeed sign for his former club.
"The second transfer window closes next Tuesday so let us wait and see what happens. Believe me brother, we will all know the truth by Tuesday," he said.
Also watching yesterday's training session was Highlanders chairman, Peter Dube, probably to have a look at his new employee before preparing the paperwork.
Mkhokheli might make his home coming debut next Sunday at Barbourfields Stadium against Quelaton.
