World Wide Scholarships director, Munya Maraire, had been picked up by police on allegations of conspiring to harm a rival athletics' coach as in-fighting within the Harare Athletics Boards turns ugly.

Maraire, whose sports franchise recently entered into a deal with struggling Castle Lager Premiership side Blue Rangers, was still in police custody yesterday.

The sports administrator was arrested on Tuesday and taken to Harare Central.

He is expected to appear in court today.

Harare Provincial police spokesperson James Sabau said police were still investigating the case.

"We have him in police custody because investigations are still going on.

"He is facing some allegations and we are yet to prefer any charges against him but he could be appearing in court anytime soon," said Sabau.

Harare Athletics Board secretary Silas Muringani filed charges that led to the arrest of the former United States-based sprinter Maraire.

Sources said Muringani received information that Maraire had hired some people to attack him.

Muringani is a coach and director of Luxoc Athletics Club while Maraire fronts WWS.

"They have been accusations between the two camps of stealing athletes from each other.

"I believe it got worse when Munya said something which Muringani viewed as a threat to his life and he approached the police.

"Muringani had been maintaining that HAB does not recognise WWS because is it not affiliated to the Harare board.

"HAB do not sanction WWS to host athletics meetings and this might have led to the fallout between the two," said the sources.

The sources allege that Maraire hired Macloud Kawocha to "deal" with Muringani in April.

Kawocha, however, turned against Maraire.

A trap was set this week where Maraire is alleged to have reiterated the mission to Kawocha in a conversation that was recorded over the phone.

WorldWide Scholarships are a diversified sports enterprise who have gone into bed with struggling Premiership side Blue Rangers, and are the sole agents of AC Milan in Africa.

Coaches from Italian giants AC Milan are expected here in August and WWS have also promised to bring the Italian giants here within the next three years.

WWS have helped athletes secure scholarships here and in foreign lands.
