Tawengwa together with 10 other nationals did not finish the full marathon which was won by Ethiopia's Tiki Galena in an Olympic record time of 2 hours 23 minutes and 7 seconds.
The result casts a very gloomy adventure for team Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe's will now wait for the men's marathon on Sunday the 12th when Wirimayi Zhuwawo and Cuthbert Nyasango will compete.
