Dynamos edged closer to the championship when they beat rivals FC Platinum in a tension-filled Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Mandava yesterday and go top of the table for the first time this season. Former Dynamos midfielder scored an own goal to give Dynamos the lead.

The win for Dynamos means the title will now be decided in the last round of matches in Harare next week when Dynamos host relagated Kiglon at Rufaro while FC Platinum seek maximum points against relegated Shooting Stars.

FC Platinum, who led the log standings by three points going into the match, had hoped to wrap up the championship with a victory over DeMbare, but the pendulum swung in favour of the visitors after the hosts' defender Daniel Veremu flicked the ball into the top corner of his own nets from a freekick taken by Guthrie Zhokinyi just inside their half in the 66th minute.

The Glamour Boys then held on to the precious goal, which was their first outside Harare this season, and wild celebrations followed when referee Nkosana Nduna blew the final whistle.

Dynamos and FC Platinum are now level on 55 points but DeMbare have a better goal difference of +25 while FC Platinum have +21.

It was also difficult to ignore the tension on the terraces where fans from both sides displayed deplorable behaviour by raining missiles onto the pitch to show their disapproval of anything that was not to their taste and in a sad ending Dynamos midfielder Murape Murape had to be helped out of the stadium after he was struck with a stone at the end of the game.

Dynamos: W. Arubi, T. Magorimbo, D. Kutyauripo, G. Bello, G. Zhokinyi, L. Kurauzvione, M. Murape (M. Vengesai, 66th minute) A. Gutu, D. Mukamba (T.Muparati, 61st minute), C. Malajila, R. Mutuma (M. Makopa, 82nd minute)
