SCOUTING for the most curvaceous woman of the year is on.Zim Gossip Models, organisers of the Miss Curvy pageant, have started registering contestants for the event.
The finals of the pageant, which is in its second year, are set for 20 October in Harare and the pageant founder Mercy Mushaninga will be in the City of Kings and Queens to select beauties for the finals.
Speaking to Chronicle Entertainment, Mushaninga said they had received an overwhelming number of women wishing to take part in the pageant in Harare and was expecting a bigger number in Bulawayo.
"We have started scouting for hour glass models and we had more than 50 curvy women in Harare registering to be part of this year's edition of Miss Curvy and we are expecting double the number in the City of Queens," she said.
She said registration forms would be available at Fingers Hair Salon as from tomorrow.
The casting session will be held in the city on 4 August at a venue to be announced.
She said curvy women aged between 19 and 34 were being accepted for the event, which runs under the name Ngoda Models.
"We are looking for Zimbabwean models that are naturally curvy, not just big or fat people," said Mushaninga.
This year's pageant promises to be bigger and better as they have so far secured sponsorship from the Egyptian Embassy which pledged a trip to the North African country for winning models, while Red Rose Hair Salon has also pledged to take care of the models' hairdos.
Mushaninga said she decided to host the pageant after being inspired by curvaceous women who were interested in modelling.
"We have African women being undermined because of their size. We want to dispel this Western notion that only the slim ladies qualify to be models," she said.
Last year, the pageant drew participants from Harare and Bulawayo and was won by then 24-year-old University of Zimbabwe student, Tanya Chikuni.
Her first and second princesses were 26-year-olds Bekezela Mlalazi from Bulawayo and Jacquie Mahaja from Harare.
Pretty Nyathi, Catty Chanetsa, Sharon Munetsi, Jacqueline Mashingaidze, Nomsa Ncube, Thobekile Mabhena and Nyasha Matonhodze were the other curvy women who made it to the final 10 of the contest.
The pageant has also been extended to Chinhoyi and Bindura.
