Ugly men rare in Bulawayo

Auditions for the ugliest man in Bulawayo begin today in the city.

Last month, not a single suitable ugly man made the grade in the auditions.

At least 12 contestants will be cast from Bulawayo to contest at the provincial finals next month.

One of the organisers of the event, Apama Machowa, said the four-day audition which begins today at the hotel will start at 8AM ending at 4PM.

He said this was their second time in the city after the first round of auditions produced no results last month.

"Last month, we struggled to find the right candidates for the pageant.

"We only got six suitable candidates and that's why we're back to scout for more," Apama said.

The contest has already held its preliminary rounds for Harare with two-time champion, William Masvinu shrugging off competition from five other contestants to win a place in the Mr Ugly Harare provincial finals.

Last year 42-year-old Maison Sere won the Mr Ugly contest amid an uproar from fellow contestants who deemed him too handsome for the title.
