Mnangagwa warned of uprising

THE church has warned President Emmerson Mnangagwa to end the country's myriad crises or risk facing a revolt from an increasingly restless populace, the Daily News reported.

Local churches which this week suggested that Zimbabwe should suspend holding elections for seven years to deal with its seemingly intractable political problems  are now warning Mnangagwa that the country is fast heading for the precipice, unless he acts urgently and decisively to stem the worsening economic rot.

The secretary general of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), Reverend Kenneth Mtata, is among the clergymen who fear that long-suffering citizens could soon take to the streets in huge numbers to protest the tanking economy.

He said this week that tension in the country was now "palpable" - and this required Mnangagwa to deal with the situation quickly before things spiralled out of control.

The forthright leader of the Zimbabwe Divine Destiny Church, Ancelimo Magaya, chipped in saying life had become unbearable for most citizens.
