The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP)  once again came out victorious in the Presidential race as Mokgweetsi Masisi emerged the outcome winner becoming Botswana and BDP's fifth President.

The announcement came out earlier on today after the BDP secured 29 national assembly seats representing 51% of the national vote.

Chief Justice Terrence Rannowane who is presiding over the election results said that, "although vote counting is still ongoing, the numbers of parliament seats attained so far by the BDP obliges me to declare Mokgweetsi Masisi as the elected President of Botswana."

However, Duma Boko the president of the  Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDM) which is the main opposition party was not happy with the results labelling them unfair.

This is in contrast with the election observers who said that the elections went smoothly including Botswana's Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) spokesperson Osupile Maroba.

"Everything has gone well they were minor complaints but if there is a candidate who has a complaint, the candidate is free to do so within 30 days after the announcement of the results," said Maroba.

Meanwhile Masisi thanked the people of Botswana for showing their support for the BDP, "I am humbled and honoured that you again entrusted the BDP as the President of Botswana for the next five years, I am blessed and privileged to serve you and promise that I will continue to do so with integrity, compassion, humility and honesty."
