Bulawayo City Councillors have expressed some worries over the increase in number of sewer pipes burst at the time when the local authority faces fuel challenges which have crippled its service delivery.

According to latest council minutes, Councillor Sikhululekile Moyo obsevered that the number of overflowing sewers had increased in the high density areas.

"She enquired on the BWSSIP programme for sewerage rehabilitation. This programme would cover a wide area and would save Council funds. Currently resources were wasted in attending to sewer hot spots weekly," reads the minutes.

"Councillor Anorld Batirai concurred. Council operations had been affected by financial challenges. Devolution funds should be used on sewer and water provision. Councillor Mlandu Ncube noted that BWSSIP was progressing very well. Most of the sewer hotspots had been attended to. Most of the sewer lines had been vandalised and residents should be encouraged to stop vandalising Council property, especially sewer lines."
