Bulawayo Mayor Solomon Mguni has revealed that the city is being cleaned at the time when the nation is under lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Zimbabwe started 21 days lockdown on Monday.

"Many thanks to hundreds of Zimbabweans and corporates from in and outside Zimbabwe who have heeded City of Bulawayo's distress call over Covid-19. The support from government and the private sector is overwhelming. Our Public relations team and City Health personnel remain on the ground to coordinate the fight against this virus," the mayor said.

"I am working from home; receiving every report and guidance from our management team ably led by the Town Clerk; Christopher Dube. The streets are being cleaned and garbage is being collected. We have restored normal water supplies; albeit the drought that we are facing. Our financial coffers will suffer a huge knock in the months to come; yet we still have to provide service to a million people of this city."

He said "we are living in terrible times. This is no time for name calling or blame shifting. We simply need to unite. This virus knows no political affiliation. Lets stay home to save lives. God bless you."
