Potholes have been a cause of concern for Bulawayo city Council councillors.

This is revealed in the latest council minutes in which Councillor Kidwell Mujuru raised concern about potholes in the City roads.

"Decomposed gravel had been used to fill them. He wanted to know why Council was not using bitumen tar for patching. Potholes were contributing to most of the road accidents," reads the council minutes.

"Councillor Mlandu Ncube agreed that the City's roads were in a bad state. The number of vehicles in the City had also increased. He suggested that a database of all the vehicles registered in the City should be created."

ZINARA should then allocate road maintenance funds using those statistics.

Councillor Mzama Dube applauded the department for the stone pitching works done in Ward 25.

"The department was being assisted by Community groups. Councillor Francis Javangwe observed that a lot of storm water drains were blocked. There was a lot of illegal dumping in these storm water drains," reads the minutes in party.

"Materials for use in clearing storm drains should be availed to community groups. Contracts for Community groups clearing storm drains should be extended."
