A trigger happy cop at Mataga Police Station in Zvishavane, Constable Mujeyi (35) ran berserk following a misunderstanding with his colleague Ali Ndlovu.

Mujeyi got furious and attempted to blow off Ndlovu's head with a rifle. Luckily, someone managed to snatch it before disaster struck.

The drama happened at the charge office and Mujeyi was arrested on the spot facing a charge of threat to murder.

He was hauled before magistrate Shepherd Munjanja who remanded him out of custody on $100 bail. He will reside at Mataga Police Station and report to the charge office twice a week and not intervene with state witnesses.

The court heard that on 29 September at Mataga Police Station, the accused had a misunderstanding with his colleague Ndlovu.

By his side, there was Constable Mapfumo who was handing a rifle over to Constable Manjeboye after completing escort duties.

Constable Mujeyi snatched the rifle and threatened to kill Ndlovu.

As he was about to pull the trigger, an alert Mapfumo snatched it saving Ndlovu's life.

However, Mujeyi looked for another weapon and picked up a metal bar, intending to strike Ndlovu.

He reportedly continued with his murder threats. Other police officers intervened and arrested him for being a menace.

Trial starts on 13 October.
