MDC Alliance deputy president Tendai Biti has accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of trying to use Gukurahundi tactics to clamp down on the opposition party by falsely claiming that they are storing armour.

Biti's sentiments follow reports by the police that they discovered body armor at a building in Harare with suggestions that MDC Alliance was behind it.

Biti however, said Mnangagwa was using the same tactics as they did by claiming Zapu had arms caches before unleashing Gukurahundi.

"We have been here before. In the 80s the regime planted arms of war on #ZAPU properties then used this to destroy ZAPU and hound  out  its leaders.Emmerson was in charge of these sting operations. Now they are at it again trying to sting the #MDC . Are you not ashamed Emmerson ?," said Biti.

On Sunday, the police said they have launched investigations into the matter.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating circumstances in which 210 old helmets resembling those used by the Police and 41 others used by Harare Municipal Police were found hidden in a basement office at Robinson House, Harare," said the police in a statement.
