Charismatic leader of Grace Fellowship Ministries (GFM), Bishop CB Motondo has embarked on a food distribution program which has kick started in Harare and is set to be introduced in Bulawayo in the next few days.

Speaking to this publication in Harare at a food distribution program Bishop Motondo said it was imperative for the church to assist the government in food security issues as well as in providing social safety nets.

Bishop Motondo said the church should be a place where the less privileged find refuge, love and compassion.

He challenged all churches to emulate the traditional churches such as Roman Catholic, Seventh Day Adventists, Anglican and ZAOGA who have long term programs to assist the needy and the less privileged in society.

A beneficiary of the food program one Handiseni Ndiraye said he was very humbled by the Bishop's love and compassion towards the people. He testified that he is not a member of GFM but also benefited from during the food distribution.

Ndiraye thanked the Bishop for his efforts and indicated that he was unemployed and unable to afford the basic needs for his family due to the economic hardships and urged the government to look into the issue of prices, and expressed support for the industry self regulation and monitoring program that was initiated by Grain Millers Association of Zimbabwe. He expressed optimism that if given a chance that program would instil sanity within retailers and suppliers while curbing the legal but unhealthy scourge of profiteering.

Motondo's food distribution program is running in Epworth, Glen View, Budiriro, Glen Norah and Dzivarasekwa, in Bulawayo it is set to be rolled out in Nkulumane, Makokoba and Njube townships.

GFM Ministries has already dispatched a team to Bulawayo to arrange logistics.
