THE Senate's Thematic Committee on Peace and Security has invited civil servants, who are embroiled in a salary dispute with the government, to give oral evidence on their welfare.

The Public Service Apex Council, which represents all civil servants in salary negotiations with the government, told the Daily News yesterday that Parliament wanted to hear from them how civil servants are surviving under the tough economic conditions.

According to Parliament's schedule of committees for this week, the committee has also invited other workers in the country through the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions and the Zimbabwe Federation of Trade Unions to give oral evidence on their welfare.

The decision by the civil servants followed a failure to petition government as police blocked their planned march last week.
