3 airlines interested in flying to Zimbabwe

Prospects of Zimbabwe's aviation industry remain bright as three international airlines have registered interest in servicing the destination.

CAAZ acting director-general Margaret Mantiziba told a stakeholders conference this morning that three airlines, which would soon come to finalise negotiations, had expressed interest in flying to Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe currently has 11 regional and international airlines flying into Zimbabwe; Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, RwandAir, Kenya Airways, South African Airways, South African Airlink, Air Namibia, TAAG Angola, Malawian Airlines, Air Tanzania and Comair.

There are two domestic players; Air Zimbabwe and FastJet Zimbabwe.

In terms of runway infrastructure, Hwange has the second longest runway after RG Mugabe at 4 600 x 30m (RGM: 4 725 x 46m). The Vic Falls runway is 4 000 x 45m while Bulawayo is 2 588 x 45m.
