POLICE yesterday banned yet another MDC rally the second in less than a week that was scheduled for Domboshawa, Mashonaland East Province.

The Nelson Chamisa-led opposition party had notified the police of its intention to hold the rally in Goromonzi District, but the police ruled that the meeting could not go ahead as the MDC had not complied with some provisions of the Public Order and Security Act (Posa).

This comes as a series of MDC political activities have been banned across the country by the police amid concerns that President Emmerson Mnangagwa's Second Republic was becoming repressive.

MDC spokesperson Daniel Molokele, however, slammed the police for being "partisan" in its conduct as well as mis- interpreting Posa to the extent of arrogating itself authority to ban a gathering.

Last week, police banned another MDC rally that had been scheduled for Mabvuku in Harare on the basis that they had not complied with Posa itself a draconian piece of legislation at least in the eyes of the country's biggest opposition party.
