Man jailed for stabbing a villager at beer drinking party

A man from Gwenyukwenyu village in Ntabazinduna has been sentenced to six months in jail for stabbing a villager with an okapi knife in a quarrel over unspecified issue during a beer drinking party.

Prince Ncube (31) pleaded guilty to assault when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Lizwe Jamela.

The magistrate convicted and sentenced him to 12 month's in jail, six months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The court was told that on February 9 at about 7pm, the complainant Phathisani Mpofu (45) and Ncube were drinking beer at Gwenyukwenyu village in Ntabazinduna when they picked a quarrel which generated into a fight.

It is alleged that that he pulled out an okapi knife and stabbed Mpofu on the left side of his body on the arm and ran away from the scene.

He was chased by the villagers who arrested him.

Mpofu was referred to hospital where he received medical treatment.

A report was made to the police which led to his arrest.
