Former Higher, Tertiary, Science and Technology Minister Godfrey Gandawa has revealed that command economics is not a new concept as it has been tried before but it failed.

"Command economics is not a new concept. It has been tried before and the results have been failure. Zimbabwe needs to reconsider its central control approach and allow for economic freedom," he said.

"For Zimbabwe to attract investment, as well as encourage savings, we need to cut taxes and offer tax incentives that excite global capital into the country. State enterprises need to be privatized, with strategic assets disposed under a framework that protects public interest. This can be achieved legislatively, without exerting management control."

He said Zimbabwe needs a brave new deal that unleashes the power of private enterprise.

"Only a strong private sector can provide the tax dollars required to support social services," he said.
