MDC top official David Coltart has urged President Emmerson Mnangagwa to emulate South African President Cyrial Ramaphosa on the actions he has taken to curb the spread of Covid 19.

Coltart said Ramaphosa announced a nation wide shut down for 21 days starting on Thursday  and his measures include all South Africans must stay at home, health workers, emergency personnel, military, those involved in producing food, water, power, lab services etc exempt from that individuals are not allowed to leave homes except to seek medical care and buy food and medical supplies.

"All businesses to close apart from essentials such as clinics, health care, food production, etc provision will be made for essential transport services,  nationwide lockdown is necessary to fundamentally change the spread ,military etc will be deployed to make sure this happens," Coltart narrated Ramaphosa's measures.

"System in place for essential medical care separate for care for covid cases, RSA citizens and residents arriving from high risk countries will be placed in quarantine for 14 days, these interventions are quick and targeted to support the vulnerable  and clinic, hospitals, pharmacies and food stores will remain open."

He said one questions why government hasn't announced similar measures.

"This is our neighbour after all and we are likely to have similar infection rates if not worse. For goodness sake Mnangagwa act - you claim to be the President, so act like one. Please now at least follow suit," he said.
