Zapu spokesperson Iphithule Maphosa has said the inconsistency shown by President Emmerson Mnangagwa in making decisions at this time of Coronavirus exposes the bad choices made by Zimbabweans during elections on July 30 2018.

"The poor choices of July 2018 are now visible in #MyCountry. The president doesn't seem to know east from west. He announced a state of disaster and violated its laid down mitigatory measures in less than 24 hours. His opposite number in main opposition had to watch SA Presidential address to come back screaming "lock down." Consulting Zimbabweans is alien to both men and they think leadership is copying and pasting what they see on international news channels," he said.

"Parliament is like kindergarten where members showcase names of great grandfathers' on packs of mealie meal. Healthcare infrastructure died with the Ian Smith regime. A hospital, the national Covid-19 referral centre just failed to avail one respirator to one of only two patients. We have lost a young life as a result."

He said the virus is poised to feast on a southern Africa country whose leaders are busy competing for relevance instead of coming up with one corona virus command committee.

"We have a seemingly clueless minister of health and a rogue ceremonial mayor competing to announce infections, leading to confusion as to whether we have two or three confirmed cases," he said.

"It is really a struggle for relevance, with the poor becoming pawns in a political chess game. Lives don't matter to these vultures, as long as they consolidate themselves in the corridors of power. #Cry my beloved country. #Cry."
