MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has urged Zimbabweans to unite and fight the Coronavirus pandemic as the nation enters 21 Days of Lockdown.

Said Chamisa, "In the coming days, I encourage you to be mourning and praying for Our Zimbabwe and the whole world for 21 days. I call upon intercessors to stand in the gap covering our nation and the world in prayer for divine providence and deliverance. If you and I believe, Zimbabwe shall be saved! Dan 10:2-3."

The 21 days lockdown was declared by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday.

For many this lockdown is a decision between livelihood &health. The challenges we face are real but the threat of ignoring this virus will be catastrophic. It remains Gvt duty to provide safety nets &provisions for the vulnerable as we face twin evils of poverty &Covid-19.

We are living in difficult times. The entire world is engulfed by COVID-19.This disease is real. It does not discriminate. Public health systems across the world, including ours, are overwhelmed. This is why it is vital to do everything to prevent the spreading of virus.

Given the essential nature of food markets, decentralised and monitored markets which allow informal traders to fend for their families while practicing social distancing and WHO hygiene protocols should be encouraged under the supervision of the assigned officials.

We thank the private sector chipping in to help. We salute the international community for supporting Zimbabwe. We continue to need more support. We see efforts by fellow citizens fundraising for this great cause. We thank you each one of you. Every dollar counts!

This is an opportunity for Zimbabweans to UNITE & for all players to come together to provide localised solutions. Zimbabweans do not have to make the impossible choice of whether to stay indoors or feed their families. We must be good people. Good people do good things.

Businesses will also need strong stimulus packages to keep them viable and protect those they employ. Frontliners need Protective clothing. There are no winners in times of crisis, there are only men & women who stand firm and sacrifice to preserve the much desired future.

Fellow Zimbabweans, let us all tackle this virus before it consumes us. Let us stand firm and unite against this global pandemic. It cannot be business as usual. We have a duty not just to ourselves but to every person around us.
