FORMER Kuwadzana MP Betty Nhambu-Kaseke (Zanu-PF) has embarked on a COVID-19 outreach programme to assist with civic education and health measures prescribed by government and the World Health Organisation (WHO) to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Through her foundation, Betty Kaseke Foundation, the former legislator is also distributing food hampers, winter clothes and sanitary ware to the elderly, less privileged and vulnerable members of the community during the national lockdown in Kuwadzana Extension, Warren Park and Kuwadzana East in Harare.

In an interview with NewsDay on Tuesday, Kaseke said the foundation had so far assisted 4 000 needy people since Sunday.

"The donations came after the realisation that the vulnerable community needed a lot of support as they were in danger of contracting COVID-19 since most of them cannot feed themselves," Nhambu-Kaseke.

She added: "As part of our outreach programme, we are distributing food hampers to the public and spread civic education on the deadly coronavirus. Churches are also some of the beneficiaries of the outreach programme that has seen us donating more than two tonnes of rice and mealie-meal to the disabled and elderly."
