Over 2 000 vehicles impounded for violating lockdown regulations

POLICE in Bulawayo have impounded 120 vehicles after their owners violated Covid-19 lockdown regulations.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the development saying they are not compromising on safety measures in the fight to contain Covid-19.

"The drivers of the vehicles are violating Covid-19 regulations. We will not hesitate to arrest those who do so carrying people without observing social distancing. We urge members of the public to work with us in bringing such elements to justice. They are endangering other people's lives," he said.

Inspector Ncube added that more than two thousand vehicles have been impounded in the city of Bulawayo since the beginning of the Covid-19 induced national lockdown.

Their offences range from loading at undesignated points, transporting passengers without observing social distancing and other safety regulations. Zimbabwe is currently on level two lockdown which President Mnangagwa said will be reviewed every two weeks.

Zimbabwe's Covid-19 positive cases this Wednesday spiked to 132. The 76 new cases were recorded in Beitbridge, Masvingo and Harare. All new cases except one have been registered among returnees from mainly SA and Botswana. Only one case is a local transmission.
