FORMER Chippa United coach Patrick Tignyemb has launched a surprise attack on his successor Norman Mapeza who engineered his departure from the club.

Tignyemb joined the Chilli Boys in July 2019, but was shipped out in the January transfer window as Mapeza, who was to leave the club a few months later, revamped the squad in search of better fortunes.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic keeper has blamed his failures on Mapeza, who had a short, but successful stint at the club after lifting them out of the relegation zone, before his relationship with the club owners soured, resulting in his resignation.

The Cameroonian's comments have been viewed as a case of sour grapes, as he criticised Mapeza's tactics, particularly the fitness drills. Speaking to Soccer Laduma, the 34-year-old opened up on his relationship with Mapeza and why things did not work out as he had planned.

"We were having a special training programme for goalkeepers, so everything was perfect. We were training and focused on goalkeeping movement, goalkeeping training, everything was okay for me to perform, you understand? But when the new coach came, there was a new structure and everything changed," he said.

"We started running (around) like headless chickens. We started losing our manner of goalkeeping. It disturbed so many things. But like I said, I don't hold any grudges against anyone in football," Tignyemb said.
