ZANU PF Provincial Chairperson Kazembe Kazembe has attracted the wrath of War Veterans after being accused of smuggling Richard Chirongwe into the War Veterans chairmanship for Mashonaland Central Province.

The accusations come after ZANU PF  launched the War Veterans League at Altena Farm in Muzarabani District over the weekend with Mashonaland Central becoming the first province to have an interim executive that will be led by  Richard Chirongwe and deputised by Luke Mushore.

A ZANU PF Mashonaland Central source who spoke to this reporter alleged that t Kazembe Kazembe had bribed Politburo Deputy Secretary for war Veterans Douglas Mahiya to preside over the creation of War Veterans league structures in Mashonaland Central and install Chirongwe as the Provincial Chairman of the War Veterans league.

Kazembe Kazembe has had a difficult relationship with War Veterans in Mashonaland Central who are said to be refusing to recognise his chairmanship and have called for his removal several times.

"Kazembe Kazembe is trying to smuggle a new war Veterans league executive in Mashonaland Central, which would be loyal to him and render the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association structures useless, as the structures have refused to recognise the Kazembe leadership." The source said.

The move, however, backfired as war Veterans across the country refused to recognise the new structure.

Richard Chirongwe is the former MP for Mazowe West constituency who gave up his seat for Kazembe Kazembe.

The former legislator once hogged the limelight facing charges of contravening Section 186, (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act), after he threatened to shoot his wife. The matter was recorded at Marlborough Police Station under case number RRB1173495 on January 3.

Chirongwe threatened to shoot his wife with a gun accusing her of engaging in an extra marital affair after he found her with a male passenger policemen in her car at Ashbrittle Shopping Centre in Marlborough.
