Bulawayo Vendors and Traders Association director Michael Mdladla Ndiweni has called on the government to immediately clarify what they meant by re- opening of informal sector after an individual proves that one is registered.

"We have been waiting for the Ministry of SMEs to give guidance on what this means, so far no update has been made as far as we are concerned. Our members have been asking us about what exactly is the meaning of this registration. For the avoidance of doubt some of our members are already registered with Bulawayo City Council and have licences to allow them to trade. Bulawayo City Council and Ministry of SMEs is also in possession of our databases. Some of them have registered companies and are running micro to small "formal" businesses," Ndsiweni said.

"Vendors and informal traders' situation is very dire within households, urgency is needed in addressing this important matter. We are prepared to help assist with enforcing social and physical distancing in market places to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We already proposed models like the one used in India to re- open markets."
