THE United Bulawayo Hospitals have reviewed its user fees upwards the fees ranges from between $250 to $15 000.

The development comes at a time when the government recently increased civil servants' salaries by 50% and awarded them US$75 Covid-19 allowance which will run for three months.

Also, the increase in user fees at UBH follows that of the Catholic-owned private hospital Mater Dei which last week announced that Covid-19 patients would now be required to pay between US$60 and US$5000 for admission at its facility.

UBH user fees review notice reads, "Please be advised that with effect from July 2 user fees have been reviewed as follows, ward deposit adult - $15 000, ward fees per day - child with assistance $15 000, ward deposit - child $7500, ward fees per day - adult $5000, ward fees per day - child with assistance $2500, ward fees per day - child without assistance $5000, theatre fees - adult $1000, theatre fees - child $500, family planning theatre fees $2500, Richard Morris theatre fees day cases $2500, normal virginal delivery$1 500."

Under government general paying user fees, GPP theatre fees adults with minor procedures are to pay $500, adults with major theatre procedures will pay $250 and children with major theatre procedures will pay $300.

However, sources from the hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity said the review was real amid their concerns that many patients will be unable to access health services considering that both government and private sector were reneging to make reasonable review of their employees salaries.
